Do you ever wonder why knowing your enneagram type doesn’t automatically translate into change & growth? It’s in part because there’s an entire three-part system that’s always running underneath the surface that keeps you believing the same old things and acting in the same old ways. Each of the 9 types have an Idealization (a belief they hold about who they must be), an Avoidance (the parts of themselves they try to suppress or avoid), and a Defense Mechanism (the automatic, unconscious pattern that keeps the split between our idealization and avoidance, and reinforces our type structure). An awareness of this Defense System and learning how to work with it is essential to deeper self-awareness, compassion, and transformation.
In a full-day workshop setting, we will explore the Defense System as well as practices to work with our individual defense mechanisms. This workshop is taught in the narrative method, so teaching will include lecture style, panel interviews, and dyadic work (meaning you will work in pairs for some exercises). We all get to be both teachers and learners here! Coffee & snacks will be provided, but please bring a sack lunch for yourself.
You will leave with:
A deeper awareness of your type structure and the mechanism that keeps it in place
Tools to work with your defense system and move towards transformation
A handout detailing the particular defense system of your type and practices to help you engage the system as you move forward post-workshop
Coffee & snacks
A community of other learners committed to self-awareness and growth!
Please note that this workshop is for those who are already familiar with the enneagram and know that their types are. This workshop is taught by Chichi Agorom, a trained teacher of the enneagram in The Narrative Tradition.
